Serger Basics

Learn the different stitches on your serger machine while having fun in a relaxed and supportive environment.  

In this class, our goal is to make & perfect the various basic stitches on your serger machine including:

- 3 Thread Narrow & Wide Serger Stitch
- 4 thread Balanced Serger Stitch
- 5 thread Serger Stitch (if your machine allows)
- 2/3 thread Rolled Hem
- Differential feed for gathering (if your machine allows)

If time permits, we will also explore the Flat Lock stitches. 

We will make a stitch book using the shop's fine selection of knits.  This class is not for beginners (e.g., those that need help with threading and the anatomy of a serger; in this case, please take our Get to Know Your Serger class!)  

Please bring your own:

• Serger (we have one for rent if you need it)
• Good quality serger thread (we recommend different colors to really see how your serger works)
• Machine accessories
• Power cord
• Foot control
• Instruction Manual 
• Scissors

Please arrive 15 min prior to class start time to setup yourself, your machine and purchase any supplies at a 15% discount.  Students must also provide what type of serger machine they will be sewing on in the workshop so we can best support your needs! (You can send an email to the shop at info@santacruzvacnsew.com or submit it at the time of order.).  There is an additional $25 surcharge for non air threaded machines that we require additional support threading.

Please bring a machine to class that has been recently serviced or is in good working order.  Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to trouble-shoot or repair machines during class.  If we determine your machine is not working or cannot be used in class, we will either excuse you or offer you one of our machine rentals.  

Minimum Class Size:  We reserve the right to cancel class if there are less than two students signed up for the class.  We will let you know 24 hours in advance if we do not have enough students and will give you an opportunity to sign up for an alternative class.   

You may cancel class up to 24 hrs in advance of your class start time; after which you will forfeit your class fee unless we can fill your spot from the waiting list, or you can send a friend.  We appreciate your understanding on this - as a small business, we are fortunate enough to have only the best instructors and they need to be paid  All cancellations must be received in writing, info@santacruzvacnsew.com.  Sorry, no exceptions.
