All About Knits Winter Session
Knit and stretch fabrics are so easy to wear, but also the one fabric most likely to make you freeze with indecision and uncertainty. Because the fabric is made in a different way, it throws us off and makes us unsure of how to work with it—even though many of our wardrobes are largely knit garments!
In this class we will take the mystery out of knits and give you the skills and tools to sew knits with ease and confidence with any type of sewing machine or serger. We will explore different types of knits –like interlock and jersey, explore the properties of knits, learn what stitches, machine settings, tension, and what needle to use. We believe your mastery of sewing knits lays in understanding how they are made and what techniques are best suited to work with them - both theory and hands-on. This class is a lecture followed by workshop.
It will be a lecture followed by a workshop where you will continue your journey (folowing the lecture) to learn about sewing with knit and stretch fabrics in a hands-on setting. Bring a project or buy a kit (pattern & fabric) from the shop to practice skills and tools to sew knits with ease and confidence with a sewing machine or serger. You will apply the skills, techniques & tools you've heard about in the lecture by working on a project of your choice! Select your knit from our exclusive collection of knits - jersey, performance, french terry and even metallic! We have some patterns that you can chose from as well - all 15% off, or bring your own. We will work on projects together!
In the hands-on workshop, we will work together on a project of choice or purchased kit from the shop (at a 15% discount). Please ensure that your fabric has been pre-washed if there's a potential for shrinkage. A sewing machine/serger is needed - either bring to class or rent. Bring or use our rotary/cutting & sewing supplies.
Minimum Class Size: There must be at least two students signed up for the class for it to proceed. We will let you know 24 hours in advance if we do not have enough students and will give you an opportunity to sign up for an alternative class.
You may cancel class up to 24 hrs in advance of your class start time; after which you will forfeit your class fee unless we can fill your spot from the waiting list, or you can send a friend. We appreciate your understanding on this - as a small business, we are fortunate enough to have only the best instructors and they need to be paid All cancellations must be received in writing, info@santacruzvacnsew.com. Sorry, no exceptions.
