Intermediate Quilting - Memory Quilt
Preserve those cherished memories! This memory quilt class will teach you how to make quilts that incorporate clothing items that hold memories and help preserve memories of loved ones, accomplishments, or special occasions. This four-session EVENING class covers preparation and planning, cutting and layout, and construction. Students can use a variety of items to make their quilts, such as shirts, baby clothes, blankets, costumes, and more (only woven fabrics please, no knit t-shirts). Sara will walk you through the making of a memory quilt from start to finish including the thought processes used to come to a decision about the design. As part of class she will consult with you to conduct quilt design planning, block consultation, quilt plan & pattern design. She will help you purchase necessary complimentary fabrics & supplies. She may introduce appliqué and other quilt design techniques in order to make the most of your quilt.
This class is for Intermediate Quilters, with both quilting & sewing experience required.
For class you will need to purchase or bring:
- Basic sewing tools: scissors, pins, seam ripper, good quality thread and 70/10 sewing machine needles etc.)
- Students also need to bring or rent a machine, as well as sewing supplies (rotary/scissors, pins, thread, etc.)
All fabric & supplies can be purchased at a 15% discount. Sara will make recommendations on needed supplies & fabrics to make your cherished memory quilt.
Minimum Class Size: We reserve the right to cancel class if there is less than two students signed up. We will let you know 24 hours in advance if we do not have enough students and will give you an opportunity to sign up for an alternative class. This class is for intended for 18 years or older; please contact the shop if you'd like an exception.
You may cancel class up to 24 hrs in advance of your class start time; after which you will forfeit your class fee unless we can fill your spot from the waiting list, or you can send a friend. Instructor Bio: | Sara has been in involved with textiles since she was a teenager. First a hand weaver, then a production Knitwear designer and since 2005, a quilter. She has won many awards for her quilts around the Bay Area and runs a successful long-arm business. |
