Beginning Quilting/Applique - Placemat of the Month!

Learn the basics of quilting and applique while constructing these festive and colorful placemats!  Each month we will make a different themed placemat - starting in January with a Valentine’s themed placemat and February with a Shamrock themed placemat.  Make them just in time for the next month and fill your house with joy! 

February was the month of Love.  Hearts are the best way to learn how to machine embroidery applique including curves and pivots.  Students learned how to applique around curves and had fun eating on these placemats to celebrate the month of love but remember, Love is not limited to just one month!


In the February class, students made St Patty’s Day themed placemats for March with an added accent flange as a nice touch too. In the March class, students made April showers themed placemats! 



In the April class, we will make flower pot themed placemats!


 
For each class, you provide fabrics & fusible supplies to make three placemats and we provide the tools & expertise to make it truly unique. Additional kits for larger families can be purchased at a discount.  You will learn about different applique techniques and recommended stabilizers like Fusible Batting, Steam-A-Seam & Heat n Bond, fussy cutting and recommended thread & applique stitch techniques. Try out different techniques for binding.  Learn from our expert machine and quilt maker staff while making these fun placemats! We will highlight fun & great looking quilting & binding techniques!  You will sew and have fun!  These placemats are simple but functional! Learn some techniques & features of your machine applied to construction techniques for quilting projects. 

Students must have completed New User/Get to Know Your Sewing Machine or have a basic understanding/mastery of their machine to take this class.  

Please bring your own:

- Sewing Machine (or rent from us for $35).
- Basic sewing tools:  rotary, scissors, pins, seam ripper and new 80/12 sewing needles
- Additional supplies can be purchased at a 15% discount.

Please note the quality of machine applique embroidery varies greatly by machine and machine type.  Please ensure machine is in good working order and has a good applique stitch - stop by our shop and we are happy to take a look at your machine before class! 

Minimum Class Size:  We reserve the right to cancel classes with less than two students signed up for the class.  We will let you know 24 hours in advance if we do not have enough students and will give you an opportunity to sign up for an alternative class.  

You may cancel class up to 24 hrs in advance of your class start time; after which you will forfeit your class fee unless we can fill your spot from the waiting list, or you can send a friend.  We appreciate your understanding on this - as a small business, we are fortunate enough to have only the best instructors and they need to be paid  All cancellations must be received in writing, info@santacruzvacnsew.com.  Sorry, no exceptions.
