Beginning Crafting: Quilted Fabric Bowl

Some of the best things start with a salad bowl. These quilted beauties — inspired by the organic curves of everyday tableware — are wonky by design, artful by nature, and genuinely impossible to make just one of.

Perfect for scrappy fabric lovers, this workshop is a dream use for your stash. Those leftover strips, sashes, and beloved bits you can’t bear to part with? They have a destiny. You’ll leave with a sculptural, functional piece of fabric art that stops people in their tracks.

Set one on a table. Hang one on a wall. Either way, someone will ask: Is that fabric? Yes. Yes, it is.

What you’ll make: One (or more — we won’t judge) quilted bowl with an organic, freeform shape that celebrates the beauty of imperfection.

Who it’s for: All levels welcome. If you love fabric and aren’t afraid of a little wonky, you’re ready.
