Alterations Workshop: Taking In & Using Darts



You asked for it, you got it!  We’ve created a full bootcamp on the entire set of skills for you to learn how to up cycle and re-pattern your own clothes to suit your style & to continue get use out of your wardrobe.  Flex your creativity and eco-consciousness while learning valuable techniques to apply to a variety of garments and sewing projects.  This class is offered as a series for those who want to build their set of skills to do alterations/upcycling (great for yourself or to start your own business!) or as a drop-in for the specific skills you need.    



Spend the summer with Em, one of our shop garment and costume making experts to extend the life of your most cherished wardrobe staples or simply make a thrifted garment suit your style!  Each session is a different technique - you bring in a project that requires that skill or we can practice on scrap.  Em will work with you 1:1 to assess your garment and discuss alteration tactics.  You will learn and sew at the same time! Come ready to seam-rip!  Each session explores the following techniques:

June 13 - Hemming & Shortening
June 20- Taking in & Using Darts
July 3 - Picking out Upcycled (onsite at local thrift shop)
July 18 - Making Bigger & Gussets
July 25 - Sizing & Making Patterns

This is a hands-on workshop where you will work with Em on the projects you bring to class.  They will provide alteration tools to use during class (or bring your own to have Em show you how to use them) and will recommend alteration tools/supplies which you may purchase at a 15% discount.

Students must bring their own project & basic sewing supplies. Required supplies:
- Seam ripper
- Sewing machine in good working order (or rent one from us for $35)
- 80/12 sewing machine needles, tape measure, pins and shears or rotary cutter.

Minimum Class Size:  We reserve the right to cancel class session if there are no more than two students signed up.  We will let you know 24 hours in advance if we do not have enough students and will give you an opportunity to sign up for an alternative class.  This class is for intended for 18 years or older; please contact the shop if you'd like an exception. 


You may cancel class up to 24 hrs in advance of your class start time; after which you will forfeit your class fee unless we can fill your spot from the waiting list, or you can send a friend.  We appreciate your understanding on this - as a small business, we are fortunate enough to have only the best instructors and they need to be paid  All cancellations must be received in writing, info@santacruzvacnsew.com.  Sorry, no exceptions.

Instructor Bio: Emy is a textile artist who's mother taught them how to quilt when the pedal was still out of reach. Inspired by color, unconventional pattern pairings, and quilts that make a big impact; Emy loves to share the methods behind the madness, and making new skills feel more accessible!
