Visible Mending with Sashiko

Learn how to use Sashiko techniques to repair textiles sustainably! In this hands-on class, you will learn how to reinforce worn fabric, patch holes, and create decorative, textured repairs on denim or woven garments, celebrating imperfections in "slow fashion".
In this class, you will learn:
- A little bit of the history and philosophy of mending using Sashiko running stitches.
- An overview of the tools & methods you can use, the different types of thread, needles, marking and other supplies.
Then you will get hands-on with your provided mending projects and scrap fabrics to:
- Assess mending areas, cutting patches, layering & marking techniques for more precise stitching. Fussy cut scraps for mending & placement.
- Practice the Itto Miyashi stitch, strategize on proper stitch spacing, patterning as well as learn about different corners & intersections.
For class, bring your mending projects, Sashiko thread & needles and marking chalk/pencil. You can purchase supplies at a 15% discount.

Minimum Class Size: We reserve the right to cancel class if there are less than 2 students signed up. We will let you know 24 hours in advance if we do not have enough students and will give you an opportunity to sign up for an alternative class.
