Skills Builder: Serger Rolled Hems
Have you marveled at the beautiful finish of a serged rolled hem and wondered how it’s done? Have you tried it yourself and gotten frustrated with less-than-polished results? Interested in learning more stitches that you can do with serger?Join our experts to overcome your frustrations and finish your hems like a pro!
The rolled hem is a fantastic stitch to hem lightweight garment fabrics like chiffon and lightweight cotton, and also a decorative, finishing stitch on just about everything! You can crank out tablecloths & matching napkins in no time!
Bring in your own project to learn on (or purchase fabric in the shop at 15% off!) If you’re looking for ideas, we suggest a tablecloth and/or napkins - they’re a great project for this skill.
We will cover:
- The (often two) different sizes of rolled hems
- How to setup your serger to make a rolled hem
- Tools and Methods: the importance of prep
- Trouble shooting and correcting mistakes. The importance of doing a trial run!
Please bring your own:
- Serger (or rent ours for $35)
- Basic sewing tools: rotary, scissors, pins, seam ripper, good quality serger thread
- Fabrics or purchase at a 15% discount
Minimum Class Size: There must be at least two students signed up for the class for it to proceed. We will let you know 24 hours in advance if we do not have enough students and will give you an opportunity to sign up for an alternative class.
You may cancel class up to 24 hrs in advance of your class start time; after which you will forfeit your class fee unless we can fill your spot from the waiting list, or you can send a friend. When registering, please provide the make & model of your serger so we can ensure you serger can make a rolled hem and best prepare for your class! This is a hands-on class!
